Happy New Year guys!
Hope you readers had an amazing 2011! And let’s hope for an even more amazing 2012! ![]()
So this post is going to be on how I ended my 2011. I spent the 26th to the 30th Of December in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with my uni mates! Be prepared for a photo landslide! ![]()
Transportation:
The mandatory shot of the Air Asia plane! Managed to take a picture before the workers started shooing me away..
Napped for 2 and 1/2 hours and when I opened my eyes, I was in East Malaysia!
Initially we planned on renting a car but Joshua managed to borrow his cousin’s car (no pic of the Kembara but there will be a pic on how we all managed to squeeze in!) and his dad’s car as above (there’s a real funny story to this car.. Half way on the road, we realized the car had no road tax. But we continued driving #like a lousai !) Oh and we also went around in Andrea’s car.
People:
The people that made the trip awesome! Me, Junxian, Carmen, Zhihao and Chennee. ![]()
Plus Joshua who was already in KK and he was basically the one driving us all around!
Once again, thanks a bunch!
Lodging:
We found a really cozy looking hotel for a pretty reasonable price!
Rm240 for 4 nights/person (after splitting it between 4 people).
Hotel Sixty3, people!! More pictures of the room below.
DAY 1 – Food trip
In case you guys didn’t know, this trip is my first time to Sabah! So naturally, I was really excited and took pictures of almost everything.
Junxian; he planned out most of our itinerary and if it wasn’t for his constant nagging to book a hotel ASAP, we would have been spending 4 nights on the streets.
And thanks to him, we had a lot of tour guides to show us around during our stay there!
Me and my tourist-y dress! ![]()
Carmen and the lovebirds! ![]()
Roomies for the 4 nights there!
COZY RIGHT?!? Thank goodness we decided on this hotel! ![]()
Clean AND pretty toilet!
The TV that played Transformers 3.
On RERUN.
So after chucking our bags and washing up, we headed out for lunch! Junxian got one of his Dental friends, Andrea to bring us around!
And our first stop was at this hawker stall for Sang Nyuk Mian! Seems to be a must try when in KK. I like how the pork meat was tender and not dry… Okay it doesn’t sound yummy from my description but it was not bad..
Group picta!
Next stop, Yoyo Café for milk tea!!!!!
And OMG, I WILL NEVER LOOK AT CHATIME THE SAME EVER AGAIN!!
This tasted A LOT better in my opinion!
And I LOVE THE MINI PEARLSSSSS…!!
![]()
Man, I miss it already..
So after the noodles and milk tea, we decided to walk it off.
Oh look! Spot the tourist!
Junxian’s standardized pose for pictures apparently.
And that’s him being very responsible in planning our every activity.
Our walk brought us to this floating restaurant where we ended up taking pictures.
That sunhat I’m wearing is A LOT handier than it looks! ![]()
Nawwwww.. ![]()
Yeap, that’s right! She brought a camcorder! >.< So we have videossss!! ![]()
And that’s Andrea!! Thanks so much for showing and driving us around!
The main reason why we were at the park wasn’t for the exercise (clearly!) but it was for the yao char kuai with kaya and butter!!!! ![]()
A lethal combo indeed.
I wouldn’t even give this place a B for hygiene. ![]()
Our step closer to clogged arteries!
The ice-kacang was just.. an ice-kacang.
After that sinful meal, we went back to the hotel to clean up and off we left for dinner at Ocean Seafood Village! It felt like we didn’t even take breaks between meals! @_@
We decided to act like lil rich kids and ate at a really expensive seafood restaurant. ![]()
The waitress said we couldn’t get anything at rm300!
But somehow our meal ended up being way less than that.
My bed mate, Carmen!
I always thought I was hard to wake in the morning but trying to wake Carmen up was almost more impossible a mission than Ghost Protocol! ![]()
Taking a lot of pictures at the expensive restaurant as proof we were there. ![]()
There’s a caption meant for this photo but I can’t remember it. –.- Carmen, enlighten me!
![]()
(I can’t reallyyyy tell the difference between fresh prawns and not so fresh prawns hence my rating can be ignored..
)
![]()
(1 and 1/2 a thumbs) sorry but I’m totally the cheese crab person.
(1 and 1/2 thumbs too..)
The bill ended up costing rm200++ (I think we got a 10% discount from Andrea’s member card) but it wasn’t as worth it as this other seafood restaurant we went on the 3rd night!
Before
After
Good job Zhihao!! Finished the fish #like a lausai (inside joke) ![]()
Since we had nothing planned after dinner, we all went to Suria Sabah for a movie! And boy, are the cinemas in KK punctual or what?!
Y U NO 15 MIN AD TIME AFTER STARTING TIME?? LOL
Sherlock Holmes was pretty awesome though. ![]()
After the movie, we went back and collapsed from trying to support all the additional weight gained.
And that’s the end of our first day!
Stay tuned for more updates on the rest of the trip! ![]()
