Kudos to medical student bloggers who can still manage to keep their blogs alive!! I find that extremely hard to do especially during exam periods. Trying to resuscitate my blog now..
So I just sat for my Summative 2 exam consisting of the Haematology and Gastrointestinal system yesterday. But sadly, that was not the major exam of the Semester yet. Nuh uhh.. We still have to sit for the EOS 3 (End of Semester 3) examination at the end of June. And we’re given a 5 week study break to prep. But a week’s gonna be spent on our electives and I’ll be going to Kuala Kubu Bharu for it. [Might blog about it..
]
There have been a couple of things I’ve been wanting to blog about but have I have put them on hold. Some of you might already know [especially those of you guys on facebook] that I tried out for IMU’s Next Top Model a month back or so. It was a great experience I must say and I would like to thank those who voted for me.
The girl in the picture, Renu; she was our very own Tyra Banks!
There were a couple of preliminary rounds and the top 10 males and top 10 females were chosen from the amount of likes they obtained through the facebook group. Pictures were then posted on these board like thing for students in IMU to vote. A vote cost rm0.50 and all the proceeds will be going to Japan.
Guess someone thought it was funny to put Yew Loong under the Top Diva category..
So you’re wondering why their pictures are faced the other way? The guys were too embarrassed and didn’t want their faces to be seen..
But all 10 of us would have to go through a photoshoot [which was carried out very professionally indeed! ]. It was carried out for 2 days during the weekend. The first day being the ‘Beauty shot’, the ‘Pair shot’ and the ‘Formal shot’ for the males. Then the second day was the ‘Formal shot’ for the females.
Where we took turns getting our make-up and hair done. It was also the first time I actually used a hair straightener! Cause I naturally have straight hair already.. But they wanted it to be straighter and all..
Where the shoot was carried out. They even had a white cloth as a backdrop!
This was the ‘Formal shot’. We were asked to bring whatever formal wear we had for the shoot. It wasn’t 100% formal but they accepted it so yea.. But we weren’t allowed to smile!
The formal shots were also the ones which they used for the voting for Top 5 females. This time it was rm1.00 per vote and again the proceed will be going to Japan. Basically this whole competition was in conjunction with collecting funds for Japan.
This was the ‘Pair shot’. We were randomly paired with the guys for this shoot. Don’t worry, we were all clothed.. The girls were asked to wear tube tops and jeans while the guys had on shorts/jeans. The shoot was carried out very professionally though and we even had our very own Mr.Jay to direct us on our poses!! ‘Put your hands here’, ‘Look straight into the lens’, ‘Tilt your neck’, ‘Relax your facial muscles’, ‘Soften your eyes’ etc.
So after the photoshoot, we had one more week of voting [based on the ‘Formal shots’] and then the Top 5 Males and Top 5 Females were chosen. Then, the day before the fashion show, we’ll have to go for fittings with the Sponsors. It was all very fast-paced towards the end of the competition! The Sponsors for the males were Key Ng and Rumors Men [I think] and the female’s outfits were from Bill Keith.
The guys!
All the girls! I thought the Batik thing we wore was really comfortable. Apparently, the whole set cost about rm1000/outfit.
Last minute touch-ups! And we also had a mini practice session before the real thing! We actually only had 1 day to practice our catwalk! And we had to do it in 5inch heels! So our main worry was falling off stage..
And let the show begin! The crew did an awesome job with the decor for that night! It was amazing! A runway was also set up for us! And they even made a behind-the-scenes trailer for everyone to watch that night. There was an entrance fee of rm5 which will also be going to Japan.
That’s Bill Keith y’all! He was one of the judges for that night.
This was the Kebaya designed by Bill Keith. We were actually suppose to wear his evening gowns [which were sooo beautiful!!] but it didn’t fit us. He designed the gowns for model’s height and seeing how we’re not professional models, we weren’t tall enough for the gowns and he was afraid we’ll rip them as we walk the runway. So we wore Kebaya tops with skirts for that night. And we were asked to take care of the outfits cause they cost a bomb!! And if we sprayed perfume on it, we’d have to buy the outfit.
The night turned out really amazing. No one tripped and fell [Thank God!] and we all received bouquets of pretty flowers!
Congratulations, guys!!! The winners were Joshua and Jessica!! They will be featured on the Cover for one of IMU’s magazines. [That was the prize the winners were entitled to!]
Family support! <3
And how can I forget?
My #1 fan!!!
Thanks for your support through it all baby!!
Removing make-up that night was crazy! That was the amount of cotton wool I had to use.
But all in all, it was a great experience indeed! I’ve never gone for a fitting before or walked on an actual runway so it was all great fun. Not to mention, I actually lasted a whole night with 5inch heels on and without tripping. Had no idea how I managed that! And the backstage chaos that people always hear about? Yeap, experienced that too! We were all freaking out making sure we could change in time and not walk out forgetting to put on our tops or something! But yea, an experience like none other.
So for you juniors who are interested in taking part in this competition, don’t hesitate guys! It’s real fun! Just go for it! The Editorial Board and the Photography Club will be organising another one next year so do keep a watch out for it!
p.s pictures are mostly from facebook so credit goes to all the photographers that night! And to Carmen for taking pictures with my camera for me! Hehe
