IMU Orientation Week 1.

I woke up with aches all over this morning but it was all well worth it! The first week of orientation has been really intense but really fun as well! Waking up at 6.30am and reaching home at about 1am almost everyday this week has pretty much left me with eyebags! When seniors told me that orientation will last pretty late, I didn’t expect it to be this late! But it’s mainly cause we have supper after. Heee… So let me fill you in on the agenda of this week.

But before that, let me tell you a bit about how the grouping works. The seniors have separated all the juniors into 14 groups with about 20+ ppl in each group. And in every group, there is a group leader, assistant leader, treasurer and also an IMGG. An IMGG is someone who’ll be doing a solo performance at the end of next week, so you could say he/she has to be sporting. I’ve been allocated into Group 2 and am the assistant leader. Oh, and we have to choose a group name and incorporate the group number in it. So after much deliberation, we came up with 2pedo Train. The 2pedo being Torpedo. Don’t think sick la! Hehe..

Tuesday [23th February]

The reason orientation ends late at night is because we have lectures in the earlier parts of the day. Orientation usually begins only at about 5pm. So today, we had briefings and meetings with our seniors. We were also taught first aid in which we’ll be having an exam next week! [Gah, why can’t I remember anything from PBSM?? ]

Then in the evening, ice breakers started!  1Ice breakers were split into Wet and Dry. So during dry ice breakers, we basically had 4 games.

1. Bomb Game

According to the seniors, this is a traditional IMU game. Basically, we have to bomb other groups but you need to pay attention and listen up! Cause if you don’t hear other groups calling out to yours to bomb you, your group have to do the dreaded…. Mississippi dance! With our butts! Sigh, my butt has been exposed to all in IMU.. -.-'[2]

2. Pole Dancing

Well the name is basically self explanatory but there’s a twist to it. The tallest guy in the group has to be the pole and 2 other girls has to dance. You could say that I had my first pole dancing experience in IMU..

3. Banana Pass

Mouth/Neck/Feet That’s the body parts that were involved in this game. We have to pass the banana using the mouth to the neck of the next person and that person has to pass the banana to the feet of the other person and the cycle goes on.

4. Crazy Milkshake

Now, this game requires strength! Stomach strength! The seniors had made a concoction of wasabi, chili padi and idon’tknowwhat into a drink and one person from each group has to finish the drink. And since all the representatives could do it, there was another round! Everyone had to dip 2 fingers into wasabi and stuff it into their nostrils! Yikes!

After Dry Icebreakers, we proceeded to the carpark for the Wet Icebreakers! Now this one was one DIRTY game! It’s actually a combination of different games at different stations. So when we get to one station, we’ll compete with another group and battle it out. But the ultimate aim was to get the juniors dirty! We had rotten eggs thrown at us, flour poured all over us, concoctions of weird slime on our hair, spaghetti and maggi mee soup poured at us and other slimy icky things! O.O[5]  But despite being dirty, oily and smelly, we all had a really good time together as a group! Seeing how we’ve only met for the first time that day, we were all pretty cosy with each other already! blushblush[2]

After the Wet Icebreakers, we went to D’ Santai for my very first supper at Bukit Jalil! And that’s when the late nights begin. =D 2[2]

Wednesday [24th February]

Today was a pretty relaxed day as there weren’t any important lectures other than a briefing on how the e-learning works and everything. And we used up most of our free time to work on the group flag.

Yeap, that’s our IMGG for you, folks!

So after all the groups finished presenting their flags and short cheers , Indoor Treasure Hunt begin! Now this was tiring! We had to run all over IMU to search for a small piece of rectangular paper! Or we had to look for stations to complete the tasks prepared! Kinda like Amazing Race but small scaled. =D 2[2]

Most of the activities carried out were to inculcate team work in the group and to teach us to trust each other and also to stand up for one another! It was teamwork that brought us to the finishing line.

I also managed to face my fears of ghosts and scary stuff as my friend and I had to walk through dark alleys and rooms to search for our ‘kidnapped’ group leader and IMGG with only one small candle to light our way. Mind you, random seniors with fainted faces will pop out of nowhere to scare us! And the only way to save ourselves was by saying out the ‘freeing’ sentence whenever we see a ‘ghost'. It wasn’t very helpful that our candle got blown out midway. -.-'[2]

That night, I bunked over at Hao Yi’s placed for the night as it was too late to drive home cause.. we went out for supper again! =p[2]  This time, we went to Ajimal! Among the delicacies that the senior recommended was the Cheese Naan, the Nasi Lemak Ayam and the Maggi Goreng Kambing.

Thursday [25th February]

This day was mainly devoted to Dress Code 1, which is actually just a cooler sounding name for Short Skit. Our title was ‘Pikachu wanna be a rapper’.

1

Went over to our HQ [yeap, we have a head quarters! =D 2[2] ] to prepare the props and to rehearse for the event on that night itself. 2

Our very own JigglyPuff and Pikachu for the night!

Our storyline was mainly bout how Pikachu wanted to be a rapper but he wasn’t very good and got rejected from Pokemon Idol. Until JigglyPuff came along and decided to train him. Pikachu ended up being a famous rapper and made a music video where the guys from my group danced to Beyonce’s Single Ladies. =D 2[2]

[Oh there’s our revised flag over there!]

Friday [26th February]

Today’s Outdoor Treasure Hunt started at 7.30am. Which only means one thing, less sleep! And seeing how it’s an outdoor activity, a lot of walking was involved. My leg muscles were left aching but the enthusiasm to finish the hunt drove me forward. This time, we were all left dirty and sweaty again. And the really hot weather and scorching sun did not help. Most of us, especially guys who went around shirtless [their shirts got dipped into belacan/chili/smelly gunk solution which made it impossible for them to wear the shirts cause it was so smelly!] were left sun burnt!

I had some weird smelly concoction poured over my hair and I had weird drawings on my face done with calligraphy ink! Which stinks by the way! And I only realised how silly I looked when I saw my reflection on a car window at the end of the Treasure Hunt. -.-'[2] But I can say that my group wasn’t ‘ragged’ that badly. I saw other teams with more gunk on them!

Oh for those who are unfamiliar with the term ‘ragging’,  it’s actually ‘a form of abuse on newcomers to educational institutions’- Google.com I only recently heard of the term myself.

So after the really tiring event, [we had to walk a lot and complete a whole lot of different tasks (there was a lot of duck walking, and when you’re having aching thigh muscles, mmhmm, it ain’t good!)] we finished at around 1ish.. Then I went over to my friend’s place to shower! Gosh, a bath never felt that good!

After that, it was the first outing with uni mates! We went over to Pasta Zanmai in Sunway Pyramid for what was supposed to be lunch but turned dinner cause everyone took so long to decide! My first time there and it was good! I enjoyed my mushroom cream and chicken pasta! Definitely going back to that place. blush[2]
